In June I was fortunate enough to spend 5 days shooting Unbound Gravel, presented by Lifetime Fitness. I spent these days following the Groove Auto Off-road Racing Team in their journey to complete this grueling race. The Unbound Gravel course is known for it long grueling climbs and many years for it’s harsh weather that challenges athletes both mentally and physically.

The first day in Emporia we spent our time getting a lay of the land. Caroline and Lauren decided to shake out the legs from the car drive the day before by checking out the first 20 miles of the course. We followed in the team van to capture content for the team and their sponsors.

The second day we spent most of our day in the pits, mingling with sponsors and spectators of the event. That evening we met up with the media team from Bianchi Cycles to shoot for their social channels. We spent the evening shooting sunset and into the night.

The third day was race day….. I spent the day speeding through the Kansas countryside in a jeep driver from a local jeep club who donate their time to get the media around. Half the challenge of this race in a media perspective is finding all of the ideal locations to shoot throughout the 200 mile course. The images seen below are a photo essay of 2023 Unbound Gravel.
