It wasn’t until 2016 that I decided I wanted to move out of my comfort zone, deep in the woods of Washington and give shooting some weddings a go to make some extra cash. As friends of my wife (who was in the wedding) and a super laid back couple in general, I couldn’t have asked for a better couple for my first wedding. The fact that I knew the couple and a lot of their guests at the wedding allowed me to really open up and be myself while taking photos. I quickly realized that when I was calm and light hearted, it instantly calmed the couple down while we were taking photos which really came across in the final images.
Amber and Parker’s wedding turned out beautifully and I learned so much as a photographer. I learned to have a calm couple, you must be calm and confident about what is going on around you. Things went off without a hitch this time but I learned valuable lessons about how to handle situations as they arrive and how to go with the flow to make sure I could always get the shots I need in the future. I never thought I would be a “wedding photographer” and I wouldn’t necessarily give myself that title now. I think of myself as more of a documentarian with an eye for catching authentic moments as they unfold around me. If you are in need of a wedding photographer in Colorado, or anywhere else around the world for that matter, I would love to hear all about your hopes and wishes for what you are looking for from a wedding photographer.
